The Egypt Healthcare Authority (EHA) is poised to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Boston Consulting Group (BCG) to advance the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into Egypt’s healthcare sector, as announced by EHA Chairman Ahmed El-Sobky.

The announcement followed a strategic meeting with representatives from BCG and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), during which discussions centered on leveraging AI to enhance health planning, telemedicine, radiology management, and early disease detection, according to reports from the Egyptian Cabinet.

El-Sobky highlighted the EHA’s substantial digital infrastructure, noting its extensive database of over 6 million electronic medical records and 500 million radiology images, providing a strong foundation for AI-driven solutions.

The Chairman further emphasized EHA’s ongoing efforts to expand Egypt’s Universal Health Insurance system by 2030, a plan that will involve the establishment of 6,000 family medicine units and 1,000 hospitals. As part of this initiative, EHA is set to launch Egypt and Africa’s first AI Applications Centre in Ismailia later this year. The centre will be developed in three phases, with the aim of becoming a leading hub for AI innovation within five years.

Moreover, AI-based building management systems already implemented at the Suez Medical Complex have resulted in a 25% reduction in energy costs, underscoring the potential of AI to optimize operational efficiency within the healthcare sector.
