Egypt’s Cabinet has approved a presidential decree amending the founding framework of the Canadian Universities in Egypt, authorizing a major expansion of academic programs at the Egyptian branch of the University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI).
The amendment, originally based on Presidential Decree No. 9 of 2019, introduces an array of new undergraduate and postgraduate degrees across four colleges: Education, Arts, Science, and Sustainable Design Engineering.
Under the updated framework, UPEI’s Egypt campus will now offer master’s and doctoral programs in education and educational studies. The College of Arts will add bachelor’s degrees in economics, political science, psychology, applied communication and cultural leadership, English, music, philosophy, sociology, and anthropology, alongside a Ph.D. in psychology.
The College of Science will offer bachelor’s degrees in actuarial science, financial mathematics, statistics, kinesiology, radiographic imaging, food and nutrition, environmental studies, and psychology. It will also introduce master’s programs in mathematical and computational sciences, science, and applied health services research, in addition to a Ph.D. in environmental sciences.
Meanwhile, the College of Sustainable Design Engineering will launch both master’s and doctoral programs in sustainable design engineering, marking a significant step in localizing high-tech engineering education.
This expansion aligns with Egypt’s Vision 2030 strategy, which seeks to position the country as a regional hub for quality higher education and attract international academic partnerships.
The Canadian Universities in Egypt have served as a platform for North American curricula and innovation since their establishment, with the UPEI branch offering Canadian-accredited degrees to Egyptian and international students.
