Egypt’s Cabinet has approved a presidential decree ratifying a grant agreement between the Egyptian government and the African Development Bank (AfDB), aimed at enhancing the institutional and organizational structure of the Ministry of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation.
The grant, provided by the Technical Assistance Fund for Middle-Income Countries (MIC TAF), seeks to empower the ministry with specialized expertise and capacity-building tools. According to a Cabinet statement, the initiative is part of a broader government strategy to strengthen international partnerships and optimize the management of development resources.
The project will bolster the ministry’s ability to coordinate with development partners, manage external funding, and execute priority projects aligned with Egypt’s national development agenda and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
“The grant reflects Egypt’s commitment to enhancing public sector efficiency and maximizing the impact of international cooperation,” the ministry said in a statement. It added that capacity development for ministry personnel will enable more effective mobilization and oversight of development finance mechanisms.
The African Development Bank has been a key partner in Egypt’s development journey, with cooperation spanning infrastructure, energy, and institutional development. This latest grant emphasizes the bank’s confidence in Egypt’s reform trajectory and administrative modernization efforts.
