Egypt and Qatar have strengthened their joint humanitarian efforts to support the people of Gaza, as the two nations collaborate to deliver urgent relief amid an ongoing humanitarian crisis. The initiative was celebrated in a special event brought together Egypt’s Minister of Social Solidarity, Dr. Maya Morsy, alongside Qatari Minister of Social Development and Family, Maryam bint Ali Al-Misnad, and other senior officials and civil society representatives from both countries.
Dr. Morsy expressed deep appreciation for the strategic partnership between Egypt and Qatar in responding to Gaza’s critical needs. She emphasized Egypt’s enduring commitment to the Palestinian cause, noting that Egypt has consistently been at the forefront of efforts to support Palestinian rights and humanitarian needs—not just through words, but through consistent and impactful action.
A Legacy of Action and Solidarity
“Since the outbreak of the crisis, Egypt has stood as the beating heart of Arab solidarity,” said Minister Morsy. She recalled Egypt’s role in facilitating the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Agreement, highlighting the importance of not only its political significance but also its embodiment of Egypt’s humanitarian values under the leadership of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi. Egypt, she said, has played a key role in facilitating the entry of aid, brokering humanitarian ceasefires, and will host the Gaza Reconstruction Conference in November.
For over two years, Egypt has borne the largest share of aid efforts in Gaza. The Egyptian Red Crescent (ERC) has served as the official national humanitarian channel for aid delivery, leveraging over 114 years of experience in humanitarian relief. Minister Morsy praised the ERC as Egypt’s humanitarian arm, citing its leadership in regional and international emergency response—from Ukraine to Sudan, Gaza to Lebanon.
Today, the ERC has become one of the largest volunteer humanitarian networks in the region, with more than 35,000 trained volunteers working around the clock in logistics centers, operations rooms, and field warehouses. Egypt has successfully coordinated humanitarian shipments from 52 countries, with more than 605 maritime shipments and 936 air cargo deliveries since the beginning of the crisis. The Qatari relief ship, Morsy noted, marks the 606th maritime shipment.
Unprecedented Humanitarian Support
On the ground, the ERC has delivered extraordinary support. Over 2 million meals and loaves of bread have been provided via the cross-border humanitarian kitchen in Arish—the first of its kind globally. The organization has also set up temporary shelters and camps, and distributed critical supplies including:
- 2.8 million food baskets
- 400,000 flour sacks
- 700,000 hygiene kits
- Approximately 7,000 tents
Altogether, the total volume of aid exceeded 600,000 tons between October 2023 and October 2025.
Simultaneously, Egypt facilitated the medical evacuation and treatment of approximately 7,000 wounded Palestinians, along with their companions and family members, as part of its comprehensive humanitarian response.
Egypt–Qatar Cooperation: A Model of Arab Solidarity
Minister Morsy underscored that Egypt and Qatar are engaged in a strategic, sustained, and closely coordinated partnership to address the deepening humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza. Their joint mediation efforts have been pivotal in securing temporary ceasefires, easing access to humanitarian corridors, and ensuring that aid reaches those most in need.
In her closing remarks, Dr. Morsy extended Egypt’s heartfelt thanks to the State of Qatar for its generous contributions and genuine commitment to joint Arab humanitarian action. She described the cooperation as a model of effective Arab solidarity, rooted in shared values and united by a mission to alleviate suffering and uphold human dignity.
