In a groundbreaking step toward digital transformation in air travel, the Egyptian Holding Company for Airports and Air Navigation (EHCAAN) has officially launched Egypt’s first AI-powered interactive virtual assistant, “Ask Mariam,” in partnership with Orange Egypt.
The innovative service was unveiled at Cairo International Airport in the presence of Eng. Ayman Fawzy Arab, Chairman of EHCAAN; Hesham Mahran, CEO and Managing Director of Orange Egypt; and Magdy Ishaq, Chairman of Cairo Airport Company.
A Smart Travel Companion for Every Passenger
Available through advanced Smart Interactive Devices (SID) placed throughout the airport, “Ask Mariam” enables travelers and visitors to receive instant, accurate answers to a wide range of questions — from flight details, travel procedures, and airport facilities to transportation options, nearby attractions, and taxi or limousine services.
Powered by cutting-edge AI and natural language processing, Mariam interacts fluently in both Arabic and English, providing a smooth, accessible, and human-like experience for passengers from around the world. The system is designed to ensure a more efficient, stress-free journey, redefining the travel experience at Egyptian airports.
Supporting Egypt’s Digital Transformation Vision
According to EHCAAN, “Ask Mariam” is part of a comprehensive digital ecosystem aimed at transforming airport operations and passenger services. The initiative aligns with Egypt’s national digital transformation strategy, particularly within the civil aviation sector — a key pillar of the country’s Vision 2030 goals.
Eng. Ayman Fawzy Arab, EHCAAN Chairman, emphasized that the launch marks “a major milestone in Egypt’s digital travel experience,” reflecting the company’s commitment to embracing smart technologies that enhance service quality and operational efficiency.
He also revealed plans to expand the service to all Egyptian airports, with Sphinx International Airport expected to be the next to feature “Ask Mariam,” coinciding with the grand opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum.
Orange Egypt: Driving the Future of Smart Airports
As a strategic digital partner, Orange Egypt continues to strengthen Cairo International Airport’s technological infrastructure. The telecom giant has already provided free high-speed Wi-Fi, device charging stations, and technical support kiosks across the airport, ensuring seamless digital connectivity for millions of passengers annually.
Hesham Mahran, CEO of Orange Egypt, expressed pride in the partnership, saying, “Orange Egypt is honored to support the digital transformation of Cairo International Airport — one of the region’s most vital travel hubs. This initiative underscores our shared goal with EHCAAN and the Egyptian government to elevate passenger experiences through smart, sustainable innovation.”
Mahran added that Orange Egypt will continue investing in advanced digital solutions to solidify Cairo International Airport’s reputation as a world-class regional hub, meeting global standards in service excellence and technological sophistication.
A New Era for Egyptian Air Travel
With the launch of “Ask Mariam,” Egypt positions itself at the forefront of AI-driven aviation services in the Middle East and Africa, offering a glimpse into the future of intelligent travel assistance. The initiative not only enhances traveler convenience but also demonstrates the country’s growing capacity to leverage artificial intelligence for real-world transformation.
