Mona Yousef

Egypt’s Minister of Social Solidarity, Dr. Maya Morsy,  officially inaugurated the Ahl Masr Hospital Forum 2025, titled “Shaping the Future of Burn Patient Care”, in a ceremony attended by Dr. Abla Al Alfi, Deputy Minister of Health and Population; Dr. Ihab Abu Eish, Deputy Chairman of the Universal Health Insurance Authority; Dr. Heba El Seweedy, Founder and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Ahl Masr Foundation for Development and the Ahl Masr Burns Hospital; along with healthcare experts, partners, and civil society representatives.

During her address, Morsy expressed her profound satisfaction in participating in the forum, emphasizing the hospital’s holistic mission to provide physical, psychological, and social support to burn survivors. “Today we gather united in the spirit of compassion, science, and innovation,” she said. “Ahl Masr is not just a hospital; it is a beacon of hope for those affected by fire accidents, offering comprehensive, free-of-charge care while empowering survivors to reclaim their lives with dignity and full societal reintegration.”

Dr. Morsy praised the Egyptian people’s solidarity and the hospital’s pioneering role. “Ahl Masr stands as a testament to the strength of civil society in Egypt and its unwavering commitment to addressing the critical consequences of burns,” she noted. “Funded through Egyptian social responsibility initiatives, the hospital exemplifies how collective effort and civil dedication can save lives and prevent harm.”

The forum, she explained, is the first of its kind in Egypt and the Middle East, dedicated exclusively to burn medicine. It celebrates years of rigorous work to highlight the importance of burn care as a specialized medical discipline, showcasing Ahl Masr Hospital’s dual role as a treatment center and regional hub for medical knowledge and training. The event took place under the auspices of Egypt’s Ministries of Health and Social Solidarity, reflecting the state’s support for the hospital’s mission and its contribution to advancing the nation’s healthcare system.

Morsy also stressed the urgent global need for specialized burn treatment. “Millions suffer burn injuries annually, and many lose their lives within the first six hours due to inadequate facilities. In the Arab world, the Middle East, and Africa, there is a critical shortage of specialized burn hospitals,” she said. She highlighted the hospital’s state-of-the-art intensive care unit, designed to prevent infections and provide early, comprehensive intervention from admission to full recovery, ensuring optimal patient outcomes.

She concluded by underscoring the Egyptian government’s commitment to empowering civil society. “President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi values the role of NGOs in serving local communities and achieving national development goals,” she remarked. “Civil society institutions act as key partners in implementing the Ministry of Social Solidarity’s programs nationwide, demonstrating the transformative power of collaboration in advancing healthcare and social services.”

Ahl Masr Hospital, the first dedicated burn treatment facility in Egypt, the Middle East, and Africa, continues to lead in patient care, medical education, and community support, offering free, high-quality treatment and rehabilitation to burn survivors while advancing the region’s capacity for specialized medical knowledge.
