Dr. Amira Abdel-Motaal Appointed Dean of Faculty of Pharmacy at Galala University

In a significant step for pharmaceutical education and scientific leadership in Egypt, Dr. Amira Abdel-Motaal has been appointed Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy at Galala University. A distinguished scholar and expert in natural product research, Dr. Abdel-Motaal brings decades of academic, clinical, and international experience to the helm of one of Egypt’s most rapidly developing universities.

Her appointment marks a strategic move for Galala University as it continues to position itself as a leading hub for pharmaceutical innovation, education, and research across the MENA region.


An Accomplished Academic with Global Credentials

Dr. Abdel-Motaal earned her Ph.D. in Pharmacognosy from the University of Tübingen in Germany, a globally respected institution known for excellence in pharmaceutical sciences. Her professional journey includes key academic and leadership positions at prestigious universities in Egypt and abroad, including Cairo University, King Khalid University in Saudi Arabia, and the German University in Cairo (GUC).

She has also chaired departments of pharmacognosy and led interdisciplinary research initiatives that bridge traditional medicine with modern pharmaceutical development.


Driving Innovation in Herbal and Natural Medicines

Dr. Abdel-Motaal has played a crucial role in shaping Egypt’s regulatory and scientific approach to herbal drug development. She contributed significantly to the establishment of national guidelines for the registration of herbal medicines in collaboration with the Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA).

Her leadership has extended to national and international research projects, many of which are funded by Egyptian and European entities, focused on the development of plant-based medical products derived from Egypt’s diverse flora.


Extensive Research Contributions in Natural Therapies

With a portfolio of over 60 international peer-reviewed publications, Dr. Abdel-Motaal is widely recognized for her research on natural therapeutics targeting chronic diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular disorders, and cancer. Her work in ethnopharmacology and drug discovery from natural sources has earned her international acclaim and collaboration with global research networks.


Academic Leadership and International Engagement

In addition to her academic roles, Dr. Abdel-Motaal serves as a member of the Pharmaceutical Studies Sector Committee at the Supreme Council of Universities in Egypt, where she contributes to national policy and curriculum development. She also leads the DAAD Alumni Association in Egypt, promoting academic exchange and research collaboration with Germany.
