The Ministry of Social Solidarity announced that Eng. Margret Sarofim, Deputy Minister of Social Solidarity, attended the closing ceremony of the annual exhibition organized by the Association of Upper Egypt for Education and Development (AUEED) in Al-Zahir. The event brought together AUEED Chairman Eng. Waheed Naguib, Director General Hany Saboungy, journalist and project director Lola Laham, and several senior association leaders.
The exhibition showcased a rich collection of traditional Egyptian handicrafts created by the talented women and young artisans of Akhmim and Hegaza village. The display featured:
- High-quality handwoven textiles
- Heritage embroidery
- Spontaneous art paintings
- Fine woodwork crafted from sersaw wood
- Akhmim’s renowned cotton products including table linens, bedspreads, quilts, and handmade bags
Sarofim praises craftsmanship and cultural heritage
Deputy Minister Sarofim commended the exceptional quality, craftsmanship, and creativity of the pieces displayed, noting that they reflect the skill of Egyptian artisans and their ability to infuse Pharaonic, Coptic, and Islamic motifs into modern designs that preserve local identity.
She stressed that supporting handicrafts and productive families is a strategic priority for the Ministry of Social Solidarity. The ministry, she affirmed, is committed to expanding marketing opportunities, strengthening sustainable production practices, and safeguarding Egypt’s cultural industries.
Sarofim also encouraged the expansion of productive cooperative incubators for artisans, offering continuous training and wider marketing channels locally, regionally, and internationally.
Reviving Heritage and empowering Upper Egypt’s communities
The exhibition is part of AUEED’s long-standing mission to revive the cultural heritage of Upper Egypt and generate economic opportunities for women and youth. All showcased products are made using traditional techniques and local materials, reflecting the association’s role in empowering women and enhancing community development.
