Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen recently announced that the government has decided to recruit women into the army for the first time while extending the period of military service.
According to the Associated Press, Denmark plans to increase the number of young people and extend the length of service from 4 months to 11 months for both genders.
The Danish army currently includes up to 9,000 professional military personnel and 4,700 conscripts undergoing basic training. The government wants to increase the number of recruits by 300, bringing the total number to 5,000 soldiers.
Frederiksen said: We are not arming because we want war, but rather to avoid it. She further stressed that in this way, the government wants to achieve complete gender equality.
