Dalia El-Baz, the Deputy Chairperson of the National Bank of Egypt (NBE), has earned a spot on Forbes Middle East’s Top 20 Arab Women in Government list for 2025. El-Baz secured the 19th position. This prestigious recognition highlights her exceptional leadership and groundbreaking contributions to Egypt’s banking sector and government-related financial institutions.
Appointed in 2017 as the first Egyptian woman to serve as Deputy Chairperson of NBE, El-Baz has significantly impacted Egypt’s financial landscape. Her career in banking spans over two decades, starting in 1995 with Barclays Bank Egypt, where she played a pivotal role in establishing the bank’s operational risk division and internal control framework. In 2008, she joined NBE, where she was instrumental in building the Operational Risk Group and establishing critical business continuity plans. Her strategic approach led to her appointment as Executive Director for Operations in 2015, where she oversaw key technological upgrades, including the deployment of a new core banking system.
In her current role, El-Baz continues to shape NBE’s operations, ensuring the bank’s operations align with global standards in technology, risk management, and customer data protection. Her leadership not only revolutionized NBE’s internal operations but also contributed to the broader modernization of Egypt’s banking industry.
Forbes’ Top 20 Arab Women in Government list recognizes women who have demonstrated significant influence and leadership in government-linked roles, particularly those who have contributed to diplomacy, culture, technology, and risk management. El-Baz’s inclusion in this list underscores her invaluable contributions to Egypt’s government-related banking sector and her continued leadership in transforming Egypt’s financial institutions.
In addition to El-Baz, two other Egyptian women were featured in the Forbes list: Amal Ammar, Chairwoman of Egypt’s National Council for Women, and Dr. Rascha Ragheb, Executive Director of Egypt’s National Training Academy (NTA). These recognitions highlight Egypt’s growing influence in the region and the significant roles women are playing in shaping the future of governance and leadership.
