CIB Egyptian Open to be Professional Squash’s First Diamond Tier Event in August

The CIB Egyptian Open is set to make history as professional squash’s inaugural Diamond-tier event, showcasing the world’s premier squash players as they compete for the illustrious title at the state-of-the-art O West complex in Giza, Egypt, from August 30 to September 6.

The 2024-25 professional squash season will witness the unveiling of the CIB Egyptian Open as the first major championship. The tournament will feature a 48-man and 48-woman draw, with competitors contending for the championship title and a portion of the $631,000 prize purse, which will be equally allocated between both draws.

The CIB Egyptian Open, a diamond-tier event, will include a 32-player qualifying draw for both the men’s and women’s events. Over three days, from August 26 to 28, four players from each draw will compete in the qualifying process.

After being absent in the 2023-24 season, the CIB Egyptian Open makes its return to the calendar. World No. 1s Ali Farag and Nour El Sherbini are expected to launch their campaigns with strong performances.

Farag is currently leading the men’s draw and aims to continue his success from the remarkable 2023-24 season. The 32-year-old won eight titles, including five Platinum trophies.

According to the PSA World Tour Website, He has a strong connection to this tournament, having won the last three editions. Following a first-round bye, the World No.1 will compete against the winner of a match between Curtis Malik and Greg Lobban, both from Britain.
