Chanel Releases New Novelties At Watches And Wonders 2023

Switzerland hosted the 2023 edition of Watches and Wonders—one of the biggest watch and jewelry expositions in the world—between March 27 and April 2. Legacy brands such as Patek Philippe, Bvlgari, Hublot, Mont Blanc, Chopard, Panerai, and many others unveiled their creations.

Chanel created numerous variations on the theme, designing jewelry watches that are absolute works of art, featuring Gem-setting, enamel painting, stone sculpting, and stone marquetry.

Chanel introduced new modalities of watches and wonders, with each new creation as gasp-inducing as the last. They show you a Mademoiselle Privé with a tweed-jacket motif on the dial including hand-sewn pearl buttons, gold-chain trim, and about three carats of diamonds, and just when you think you’ve seen the flagship introduction, out pops a J12 flying tourbillon smothered in diamonds, including on the hands.

Fashion meets French luxury house Chanel may be best known for its elegant ensembles, but it also boasts a strong watchmaking division. Earlier this year, the brand released its Mademoiselle Privé Pique-Aiguilles jewelry watches, part of the displays at Watches and Wonders. The dials are shaped like pincushions and borrow designs from the brand’s fashion vocabulary—its tweed, pearls, lace, embroidery, and quilting pattern.

There is a cyber theme running through some of this year’s intros, including the clever Boyfriend Cyberdata, the J12 Hyper Cybernetic, and the J12 Cosmic, along with several star-motif pieces.
