In response to ongoing disruptions in telecommunications infrastructure, the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) has announced a temporary increase in the daily cash withdrawal limit for both individuals and businesses.
Effective immediately, the cap on daily cash withdrawals from bank branches in local currency has been raised to EGP 500,000, up from the previous limit of EGP 250,000.
“This measure is temporary and will remain in place until full restoration of communication networks across the country,” the Central Bank stated.
The decision follows the recent fire at the Ramses central telecom facility, which caused widespread outages in internet and mobile services, disrupting operations across financial institutions, airports, and various digital platforms nationwide.
Emergency Measures to Maintain Financial Access
The CBE move aims to ease cash flow constraints on businesses and individuals who rely on in-person banking services amid interrupted digital banking channels and ATM network limitations.
Financial analysts say the move reflects the Central Bank’s commitment to maintaining liquidity access and economic continuity during unforeseen national infrastructure shocks.
