CBE  and Health Ministry Renew Three-Year Cooperation to Support Critical Medical Treatments

Egypt’s Central Bank Governor, Hassan Abdallah, and Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Deputy Prime Minister for Human Development and Minister of Health and Population, presided over the signing ceremony for the renewal of the cooperation protocol between the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) and the Fund for Emergency Medical and Rare Genetic Diseases, extending the partnership for an additional three years.

The renewal builds upon the original protocol signed in November 2024, in line with President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s directives to eliminate patient waiting lists and reduce the burden on Egyptian families. The initiative aims to provide critical surgical interventions for patients not covered by health insurance, with full financial support for the procedures.

The signing ceremony was attended by senior officials from the CBE and the Ministry of Health, with the protocol formally signed by Ghada Tawfik, Deputy Governor of the Central Bank for Social Responsibility, and Dr. Ibrahim Abdel Aty, Executive Director of the Fund.

Governor Hassan Abdallah highlighted the protocol renewal as a reflection of the fruitful collaboration between Egypt’s banking sector and the Ministry of Health, which has successfully enabled sustainable financing for critical surgeries and expanded access to essential medical care. Since its launch, the initiative has reduced waiting times for more than 26,000 patients in high-priority areas such as open-heart surgery, cardiac catheterization, and stent procedures. Additionally, it has facilitated thousands of joint replacement surgeries and hundreds of corneal transplants in coordination with the Unified Procurement Authority.

“Egypt’s banking sector remains committed to supporting health initiatives as part of its corporate social responsibility, ensuring that vulnerable populations receive dignified medical care in line with Egypt Vision 2030, which prioritizes universal health coverage and quality services,” Abdallah stated.

Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar praised the Central Bank and the banking sector for their ongoing support of health initiatives, stressing that the three-year extension demonstrates the bank’s commitment to providing safe, rapid, and high-quality healthcare services to Egyptian citizens.

This renewed partnership underscores Egypt’s ongoing efforts to enhance healthcare accessibility, reduce treatment delays, and ensure that critical medical interventions reach those most in need, marking a significant step toward improving the nation’s public health infrastructure.
