Cairo hosts 3rd edition  of  She Arts Festival

The third edition of She Arts, a festival dedicated to showcasing women’s creativity, launched at the American University in Cairo’s Tahrir Campus yesterday and will run until 1 October.

The festival’s opening took place at the AUC’s Ewart Hall and included a performance by several Egyptian women musicians, accompanied by She Arts Orchestra, an all-women ensemble conducted by Donia Deghery (Egypt).

The soloists of the evening were violinist Merna Sorour (Egypt), Gala El-Hadidi (mezzo-soprano), and flautist Rania Omar (Egypt), the winner of last year’s She Arts Music Competition.

The opening also showcased a Spanish quartet Las Migas performing in the main garden.

The festival’s music segment will feature Asia Madani, a harp concert by Mona Wasef ( Egypt) and Anna Bassy (Italy), Talia Lahoud (Lebanon) in an opening act for Tablet El-Sitt (Egypt), a double act with Filipa Biscaia (Portugal) and Rap Night (Egypt), Fulana (Saudi Arabia) in an opening act for Dina El-Wedidi (Egypt), DSBA Choir led by choirmaster Engy Lotfi.

The dance and theatre performances include a contemporary dance play titled What the Hell Am I Doing Here? (Egypt), a performance by Vice Versa Arts (Egypt), contemporary dance by Taseti, alongside calligraphy by Nagham Salah and Isolated Island (Sudan).

The festival also features film screenings, workshops and discussions.
