The Businesswomen of Egypt 21 (BWE 21) held its 10th annual conference under the theme “Technological Advancements Supporting Women’s Economic Growth.” The opening session of the conference took place at the General Secretariat of the Arab League in Cairo on Thursday, February 13, 2025, in the presence of H.E. Dr. Maya Morsy, Egypt’s Minister of Social Solidarity. The event will continue in Luxor and Aswan from February 14 to 17, under the patronage of the Egyptian Cabinet and the Arab League.

Commitment to Women’s Economic Empowerment

In her opening speech, H.E. Ambassador Dr. Haifa Abu Ghazaleh, Assistant Secretary-General and Head of the Social Affairs Sector at the Arab League, emphasized the Arab League’s strong commitment to the economic empowerment of Arab women. Dr. Abu Ghazaleh highlighted that women’s empowerment is central to achieving sustainable development and strengthening national economies. The Arab League collaborates with international and regional organizations to support policies promoting women’s economic rights. The League’s efforts are part of a broader strategy to ensure that Arab women are included in key decision-making processes and that their rights are enhanced.

Creation of the “Arab Women Economic Development Observatory”

Dr. Abu Ghazaleh further highlighted that the Arab League’s recent summit, held in Bahrain in May 2024, adopted decision No. 894, which approved the establishment of the “Arab Women Economic Development Observatory” in the UAE. This observatory reflects the Arab world’s solidarity with women’s issues and aims to provide technical support to member states to raise awareness about women’s economic, social, cultural, and legal issues. It also plays a vital role in achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Solidarity with Palestine

Additionally, Dr. Abu Ghazaleh expressed her concern over the recent developments in Palestine and reiterated the Arab League’s firm position against the forced displacement of Palestinians. She called for continued international support for Palestine’s unalienable rights and for solidarity with the Palestinian people in their struggle for justice and the establishment of an independent state based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Minister Maya Morsy’s Address: Celebrating Women’s Achievements

Dr. Maya Morsy, Egypt’s Minister of Social Solidarity, also addressed the conference, describing it as a significant platform for women entrepreneurs and those interested in empowering women socially and economically. Dr. Morsy praised the achievements of Egyptian and Arab women and discussed the challenges they face. She stressed that Egypt has seen remarkable advancements in women’s empowerment, thanks to political will and national prioritization of women’s issues. The Egyptian government has transformed women from mere beneficiaries of development to active partners in decision-making and leadership in national development.

Celebrating Businesswomen’s Achievements and Future Opportunities

President of BWE 21, Dr. Yomna El-Shereidy,  also spoke at the event, noting the participation of many delegations from Arab and foreign countries. She emphasized the importance of sustainability and technology in boosting business performance. Dr. El-Shereidy highlighted that the conference provides a valuable platform for exchanging expertise and fostering collaboration among stakeholders in the fields of economy and entrepreneurship. In light of current global economic challenges, the conference will offer distinguished programs, including seminars, visits, and workshops designed to support and develop small and medium-sized businesses. One of the key aspects of the conference will be exploring how modern technologies like artificial intelligence can enhance business operations and increase growth potential for women-led enterprises.
