The British BBC Channel recently unveiled a huge statue and artistic sculpture dedicated to veiled women built in Birmingham, United Kingdom. The enormous figure is considered the first of its kind worldwide.
Birmingham, the second largest city in the UK, went public with the statue as a gesture to honor veiled women living in the country. Local media said it was the first statue in the world of a woman wearing the hijab.
The Media also revealed details about the statue, including that it is five meters tall and was commissioned by Legacy West Midlands, a charity that celebrates the heritage of immigrant communities in Birmingham.
This artwork is called “The Strength of the Hijab”. Artist Luke Perry designed the new artistic sculpture to celebrate and honor veiled women. He confirmed it will be installed in the Smethwick area, West Midlands, next month.
The famous sculptor confirmed in statements reported by several media outlets in Britain that the veiled women community does not receive proper representation in the UK; they need to be seen as an important part of Britain’s society.
Perry also mentioned that the new statue could be controversial, but it is important to represent everyone who lives in Britain.
