Bin Rashid Initiatives, Magdi Yacoub Heart Foundation Ink $60 million Support Agreement

Mohammed bin Rashid Al-Maktoum Global Initiatives (MBRGI) and the Magdi Yacoub Heart Foundation agreed to provide new contributions totaling AED 220 million ($59.8 million).

The Magdi Yacoub Global Heart Centre will allocate funds towards completing a new complex on October 6th, Egypt. The complex will cover approximately 37 acres and will mainly focus on treating newborns with congenital heart defects, increasing their chances of living a healthy life by 95 percent, according to the Emirati news agency WAM. It will also feature 300 additional beds and 36 outpatient clinics.

The new complex will triple the current training graduates to 2,625 healthcare professionals by training 1,750 professionals annually. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence, and Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees of MBRGI, attended the signing ceremony in Dubai.

This funding will help expand and enhance the foundation’s capacity and efficiency. Sheikh Hamdan also mentioned that this contribution raises the total support provided by MBRGI to approximately AED 320 million ($87.1 million).

Led by Sir Magdi Yacoub, a globally renowned philanthropist and heart surgeon, the foundation’s new hospital project in Cairo will provide care to 130,000 patients annually. The Crown Prince of Dubai said the UAE’s support aligns with Mohammed bin Rashid’s humanitarian mission to spread hope and heal needy people.

Professor Magdi Yacoub expressed deep gratitude for MBRGI’s support, commending the UAE leadership’s unwavering commitment to enhancing healthcare regionally and globally. He said, “This generous contribution will have a profound impact,” during the ceremony, as WAM reported. “The center’s expansion will offer renewed hope to heart patients, particularly children needing life-saving treatment for congenital conditions. By increasing access to care, we can combat the global burden of heart disease and significantly reduce mortality rates,” Yacoub added. The Magdi Yacoub Global Heart Centre will allocate the funds towards completing a new complex in the 6th of October City, Egypt.

The complex, which spans 35.67 feddans (approximately 37 acres), will focus primarily on treating newborns with congenital heart defects, raising their chances of living healthy by 95 percent, according to the Emirati news agency WAM.

The new complex will feature an additional 300 beds and 36 outpatient clinics.

The news agency added that the complex will triple the current training graduates to 2,625 healthcare professionals by training 1,750 professionals annually.

The signing ceremony, held in Dubai, was attended by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence, and Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees of MBRGI.
