Bahrain’s Winfred Yavi Brings Home Gold After Winning 3000 Meters Steeplechase

On Tuesday, Winfred Yavi, an athlete from Bahrain, claimed the gold medal in the women’s 3,000-meter steeplechase event, securing another significant victory for Arab athletes.

Yavi’s exuberant celebration followed a stunning final sprint that saw her overtake Chemutai at the finish line. Chemutai, visibly moved, finished in second place as Yavi set a new Olympic record with a time of 8 minutes 52.76 seconds.

This victory marks the second gold medal for Arab countries at the 2024 Paris Games, with the first being secured by Algeria’s Kaylia Nemour in Artistic Gymnastics.
