At the 2025 Aswan Forum for Sustainable Peace and Development, world-renowned heart surgeon Sir. Magdi Yacoub delivered a powerful message: lasting progress in Africa—and globally—cannot happen without empowering women and youth.
In a televised interview with journalist Hassani Bashir on Cairo News, Dr. Yacoub commended Egypt’s role in leading regional and international dialogue on peace and inclusion. He emphasized that the forum serves not only as a platform for diplomacy, but also as a bold statement on social equity and development.
“Since the time of ancient Egyptians, and now under the leadership of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, Egypt continues to show the world the need for peace and love for humanity,” Dr. Yacoub said.
“This conference is not just important—it is beautiful in its vision and values.”
Women and Youth: The Foundation of Progress
“Empowering youth and women is not optional—it’s essential,” he stated. “Without them, there can be no real development, no meaningful progress.”
He praised Egypt’s model of inclusive leadership, which prioritizes social cohesion, gender equality, and opportunity for the next generation. This approach, he argued, is vital for any society that hopes to build peace that lasts.
A Strategic Platform for Africa’s Voice
The Aswan Forum, held annually in Egypt’s southernmost city, brings together heads of state, policymakers, experts, and civil society to address the links between peace, security, and sustainable development—especially within Africa.
Dr. Yacoub lauded the forum’s Pan-African focus, saying it’s time for the continent to take its rightful place in the global conversation.
“It is an honor to take part in this forum and witness a nation leading with heart and vision.”
He also stressed that integration among African nations is key to unlocking the region’s full potential—economically, socially, and politically.
For Dr. Yacoub, Egypt’s leadership at the forum represents more than politics—it reflects a deep-rooted national identity based on compassion, progress, and unity
