On the sidelines of the Amman: Capital of Arab Youth conference in Jordan, Egypt’s Minister of Youth and Sports Ashraf Sobhi honored Amb. Haifa Abu Ghazala, Assistant Secretary-General of the Arab League and Head of its Social Affairs Sector, in recognition of her longstanding contributions to youth, women’s empowerment, and social development across the Arab region.
Sobhi, who also serves as Chair of the Executive Bureau of the Arab Ministers of Youth and Sports Council, presented the award during a special ceremony, describing Abu Ghazala as “a pillar of pan-Arab cooperation and a tireless advocate for youth-driven development.”
The award acknowledges Ambassador Abu Ghazala’s role in shaping social policy within the League of Arab States, particularly through her leadership in programs related to youth engagement, humanitarian action, and gender equity. Her tenure has been marked by cross-border collaboration, cultural diplomacy, and the advancement of inclusive policies within the Arab League’s social affairs portfolio.
The event, held in Amman as part of Jordan’s designation as the 2025 Capital of Arab Youth, drew youth leaders, policymakers, and officials from across the Arab world. It comes amid growing efforts by regional governments to elevate youth voices and institutionalize support for youth-led initiatives.
In response to the honor, Abu Ghazala expressed her deep appreciation and reaffirmed her commitment to supporting pan-Arab initiatives that center young people.
The conference’s broader agenda includes policy workshops, cultural exchanges, and strategic planning sessions focused on youth participation in governance, sustainable development, and innovation. The tribute to Abu Ghazala underscored the enduring role of Arab institutions — not only in diplomacy but in fostering unity around the challenges and aspirations of younger generations.
