Earlier today, EU Ambassador to Egypt Christian Berger paid a visit to Alexandria, Egypt, to mark Europe Day.
The diplomat will hold meetings with members of the business community, young people, and media representatives for three days in this coastal city.
Talks will tackle water challenges, EU efforts in this vital sector, and trade cooperation between Egypt and the EU.
The Ambassador told MENA that a boom was reported in Egyptian exports to Europe in 2022 compared to 2021, thanks to growing gas exports to some European countries.
He said Egypt is a key economic partner to the EU in the Mediterranean region, and achieving sustainable economic development in Egypt is very important to the EU.
Berger said trade exchange between Egypt and the EU achieved a remarkable increase with Egypt’s exports totaling 8 bn euros in the first half of 2022 against 4 bn euros in 2021.
The EU, the diplomat said, is still the biggest importer of Egyptian products.
