Grand Imam Dr. Ahmed El-Tayeb, Sheikh of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif and Chairman of the Council of Muslim Elders, spoke about equality by which justice is achieved between men and women, which states that both genders are equal and deserve equal rights.
He stated during the “Imam El-Tayyeb” program that he presents on Egyptian Channel 1: The woman is equal to the man at the origin of creation, as the Qur’an emphasized in many verses, and it is unfair to deny the woman her right to equality on the pretext that men prefer her this way.
El-Tayeb continued: Some societies, in the past and modern times, viewed the woman as a creature belonging to the man, harnessed to serve him, his family, and children. These cultures did not consider women as equals to men at the origin of humanity.
Imam El-Tayyeb stressed that equality between the dissenters is an empty word that means that one is not equal to the other; this kind of equality promotes injustice to one party and favors the other. There is nothing wrong with taking a moment to reflect on the philosophy of Islamic legislation to clarify the origins of creation and legislation.
