After presidential decree Egypt to set int’l Ras El Hekma airport

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi recently signed a decree to establish a new international airport in Matrouh Governorate in the northwestern part of the country. This move aims to boost the country’s tourism and economic development further. The airport is expected to provide a major transportation hub to serve the region and cater to the growing number of tourists visiting the area.

The decree no. 152 of 2024 stipulates the allocation of state-owned lands spanning 1,785 feddans, almost 7.5 million square meters on the western north coast in Matrouh, for the Civil Aviation Ministry to establish Ras El Hekma International Airport.

Egypt and Emirati investors recently signed a historic deal to build a multi-billion new state-of-the-art city of Ras El Hekma as a new massive urban, business, and tourism center in the country’s North Coast.

Ras El Hekma will be built on an unprecedented area of over 40,600 feddans, the prime minister said.

The project will encompass residential districts, prestigious international hotels, tourist resorts, expansive entertainment venues, and service facilities such as hospitals, schools and universities, he said.

It will also feature administrative and service buildings, a free economic zone for information technology industries and logistics hubs, and a central business district that would attract global companies.
