Africa Health ExCon 2023 Highlights: Day 2

The 2nd day of Africa Health ExCon, held under the patronage of H.E. President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, witnessed various informative conference sessions hosting C-suite professionals and subject matter experts.

A session entitled “ Lung Transplantation in Ain Shams University Hospitals: A Real Application of Good Team Work” brought together senior officials and experts, including Dr. Mohamed Awad Tageldin, former Minister of Health, former President of Ain Shams University and the acting Advisor to the President on Health and Prevention Affairs,  “Adel Mohamad Alansary,  Professor of Anesthesiology and Critical Care at  Ain Shams University, Prof. Yasser Mostafa,  Professor of Pulmonary Medicine at Ain Shams University, and Prof. Hanaa El Gendy, Professor of Anesthesiology and Critical Care at  Ain Shams University.

During the session, 3 keynote speeches were delivered about the responsibilities of pneumatologists conducting lung transplantation surgeries. Dr. Adel also delivered a speech about the difference in anesthesia for the lung transplant recipient. This is in addition to the healthcare and intensive care procedures that are required after the surgery.

This is in addition to hosting Africa Health Business (AHB) session entitled “Building Sustainable Systems for Blood in Africa”,  moderated by Dr. Daniella Munene External Affairs Head of AHB, hosting Dr. Rebecca Kiptui, Acting CEO of Kenya Tissue and Transplant Authority, Dr. Morgan Shetty President of Healthcare Federation of South Africa, Prof. Doaa Al Damardash, Lecturer of Internal Medicine & Clinical Hematology Faculty of Medicine, Cairo University, Egypt, Jonathan Kaitel Director of Strategy and Transformation, Diagnostics Africa Roche, and Erica Monfardini, Director of Data and Partnerships at B Medical Systems.

A session entitled “Maternity Challenges in Africa” hosted Dr. Nabil Maurice Gerges, Professor of Fetal and Pediatric Cardiology at the University of Paris, Dr. Ghada Qazmel, consultant of cardiovascular and interventional catheters at the Heart Institute, Dr. Youssef Abu Elwan, Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Infertility, Faculty of Medicine, Zagazig University, and Dr. Hebatallah Attia, Professor of cardiology at the Faculty of Medicine, Ain Shams University.

Another session entitled “ Building Resilient Health Systems and Health Security and Designing Health Benefit Packages”  hosted a group of panelists, including Adel Adawy, President of Egyptian Medical Association, Dr. Ebere Okereke, CEO of  Africa Public Health Foundation, Dr. Ayodele BankoleJames Registrar and CEO of African Institute of Public Health Professionals. This is in addition to the presence of Cheikh Ly, a Professional at Ansts, Kawaldip Sehmi, CEO of International Alliance Patients Organizations, Dr. Awad Mataria, Regional director of Universal Health Coverage/Health Systems at the WHO, and Dr. Ama  Fenny,  Senior Research Fellow with the Institute of Statistical, Social, and Economics Research (ISSER) at the University of Ghana.

In the same context, an opening session took place on the second conference day entitled “GI Bleeding in Africa: An African Nightmare: Challenges and Solutions” chaired by Dr. Sherif Abd El Fatah, Professor of Liver &Gastroenterology at the Military Medical Academy, Prof. Ponsiano Ocama, Professor of Medicine and an academic hepatologist at Makerere University College of Health Sciences, in Kampala, Uganda. The session also witnessed the presence of Dr. Ibrahim Mostafa, Dr. Ayman Abdelaziz, Prof of internal medicine Head of the internal medicine department at Al Azhar University, and Dr. Nasiru Ismail Abdullahi, Surgeon.

 Africa Health ExCon will take place from 6 to 9 June 2023, in the international presence of 90 countries. The event will host more than 1200 keynote speakers.

Africa Health ExCon will bring together all the healthcare representatives, offering them first- of- its kind opportunity to explore the services offered in various sectors, including medical supplies, equipment, pharmaceuticals, consumables, chemicals, dental supplies, dermal products, nutrients, and vitamins, healthcare providers, pharmacies, feeding, and packaging industries.
