UNWTO’s Vision for Rural Tourism
The inclusion of West Suhail and Abu Ghosoun in the Best Tourism Villages initiative is not just a recognition of the past but also a promise for the future. UNWTO Secretary-General Zurab Pololikashvili emphasized the transformative power of tourism, particularly in rural areas.
West Suhail and Abu Ghosoun’s inclusion in the prestigious UNWTO list marks a turning point in Egypt’s rural tourism strategy. These villages become global models for sustainable rural tourism, offering visitors meaningful travel experiences while preserving the authenticity and beauty of their local cultures. Rural tourism represents a key driver of local economic growth, creating jobs, fostering community engagement, and mitigating the seasonality of tourism by spreading visitor demand across different regions and times of the year.
