A Woman in Egypt Jumps from a Moving Vehicle Due to Sexual Harassment…Again!

An incident took place in the Old Cairo district, where a female resident jumped from a moving auto-rickshaw, locally known as a tuk-tuk, out of fear of potential assault by the driver. The victim promptly filed a report following the incident, leading to the driver’s arrest on 9 July.

According to a statement released by the Ministry of Interior, the woman encountered indecent behavior from the tuk-tuk driver while commuting home from work.

Despite her requests for him to cease his actions and allow her to alight, he failed to comply, prompting the victim to exit the vehicle while it was still in motion, resulting in injuries.

According to the Egyptian Streets Website, the victim who lodged a report against the driver sustained a fracture to her facial bone structure and left arm. The perpetrator has admitted to the described incident. Legal proceedings have been initiated, and the Public Prosecution Office has been notified to commence further investigations.

Egyptian authorities have recently faced criticism due to a series of assault incidents involving women. There have been multiple reported cases of women feeling threatened and jumping out of moving vehicles, drawing attention to the issue.
