Counselor Amal Ammar, President of Egypt’s National Council for Women and Chair of the Ministerial Council of the Women Development Organization (WDO), met with Dr. Maimoona bint Khalil Al Khalifa, Secretary-General of Saudi Arabia’s Family Affairs Council, to explore ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation and exchange expertise in the fields of women’s empowerment and family support.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the conference titled “Investing in Religious and Media Discourse and Its Impact on Protecting and Promoting Women’s Rights in OIC Member States,” held on Feb. 1–2, 2026. The conference was organized by Egypt’s National Council for Women in cooperation with Al-Azhar Al-Sharif and the Women Development Organization, under the patronage of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.
Leveraging Religious and Media Discourse to Support Women’s Rights
At the outset of the meeting, Ammar welcomed Al Khalifa’s participation in the conference, expressing appreciation for her active engagement. She stressed the importance of leveraging religious and media discourse to support women’s issues and raise societal awareness of women’s rights across Islamic Cooperation Organization (OIC) member states.
Ammar highlighted that such discourse plays a critical role in shaping public attitudes and reinforcing values that promote gender equality, dignity, and social cohesion.
Egypt’s Commitment to Women’s Empowerment
Ammar reaffirmed that women’s empowerment remains a top priority for the Egyptian state, reflecting the political leadership’s commitment to expanding women’s participation across all sectors. She noted that this commitment has translated into a wide range of national policies, programs, and initiatives designed to enhance women’s social, economic, and political roles.
These efforts, she said, align with Egypt’s broader development vision and its focus on inclusive and sustainable growth.
Toward Stronger Egypt–Saudi Coordination
For her part, Al Khalifa congratulated Ammar on the success of the conference, praising its organization and the constructive discussions it fostered. She expressed gratitude for the warm reception and hospitality, and underscored the importance of strengthening cooperation and coordination between Egypt and Saudi Arabia in the coming period.
The two sides agreed on the value of continued dialogue and joint initiatives aimed at supporting women and families, exchanging best practices, and addressing shared challenges across the region.
