3.1 Million Women Screened Over 5 Years Under the “Mother and Infant Health Care” Initiative

Mona Yousef

The Ministry of Health and Population has announced that a total of 3.1 million women have been screened over the past five years as part of the Presidential Initiative for Mother and Infant Health Care, the largest of its kind in Egypt for early detection of diseases that can be transmitted from mother to child.

Launched in March 2020, this comprehensive initiative focuses on early detection of key infections such as Hepatitis B, HIV, and syphilis among pregnant women. The goal is to reduce the risk of transmission to the unborn child, thus promoting both maternal and infant health.

Free Services Available at Health Units and Mother-Child Centers

The initiative provides free services at health units and mother-child care centers across the country. Medical teams from the initiative follow up on the health of both the mother and the newborn for 42 days after delivery, ensuring comprehensive postnatal care and addressing any health issues that may arise.

Integrated Database for Seamless Follow-Up and Treatment Referrals

To facilitate seamless care, the initiative is supported by an integrated database that allows for efficient monitoring and follow-up of the women involved, ensuring they are referred to the nearest health center for any required treatments. This ensures that no woman or child is left without the necessary medical support.

Dedicated Hotline for Queries

Additionally, the Ministry of Health has launched the hotline 15335, providing a direct line for inquiries and assistance regarding the initiative. This service enables women to access information and support, ensuring that they can fully benefit from the program’s offerings.

Total Investments of EGP 300 Billion to Support Egyptian Women

In line with this initiative, the government has allocated a significant total of EGP 300 billion in investments aimed at enhancing the health, well-being, and empowerment of Egyptian women. This allocation underscores the government’s commitment to improving women’s healthcare services, promoting their social well-being, and securing their pivotal role in Egypt’s development.

A Nationwide Commitment to Public Health

Through this initiative, the Egyptian government is working to strengthen public health by ensuring that women and children are protected from preventable diseases, ultimately contributing to a healthier and more prosperous future for Egyptian society
