2026 Grammy Awards to Make Historic Debut at Egypt’s Pyramids on October 22

In a move that bridges millennia of human creativity, the Recording Academy will announce the 2026 Grammy Awards nominations at Egypt’s Pyramids of Giza on October 22 — the first time in history that music’s most prestigious ceremony will stage its kickoff outside the United States.

Set against one of the world’s most awe-inspiring architectural marvels, the historic event will celebrate the global power of music while spotlighting Egypt’s growing role as a nexus of cultural influence and artistic diplomacy.

A Monumental Milestone for Music

The Pyramids of Giza — standing for more than 4,500 years as symbols of ingenuity and endurance — will serve as the backdrop for a night that honors today’s most innovative musicians. The announcement will reveal nominees for the 67th Annual Grammy Awards, to be held in Los Angeles in February 2026.

“This moment reflects a turning point in how we recognize music’s global influence,” said Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr. in a statement. “There is no place on Earth more symbolic of cultural legacy than the Pyramids of Giza — and no better time to affirm that music transcends borders, languages, and generations.”

The ceremony will feature live performances by internationally renowned artists alongside leading Egyptian talent, showcasing a powerful fusion of tradition and modernity. The event will be broadcast globally, inviting millions of viewers to witness a singular celebration of sound and heritage.

Egypt’s Global Cultural Ascent

For Egypt, hosting the Grammy announcement is more than symbolic — it is a bold statement of cultural renaissance. Long known for its archaeological treasures and ancient storytelling traditions, Egypt is now asserting itself as a modern cultural powerhouse.

“This is not just about hosting an event — it’s about telling a new story of Egypt,” said Ahmed Issa, Egypt’s Minister of Tourism and Antiquities. “We are proud to welcome the world to a place where civilization began, to celebrate where culture is going.”

Over the past decade, Egypt has invested heavily in its creative economy, positioning itself as a regional hub for film, fashion, design, and music. From reviving ancient spaces as concert venues to launching international collaborations, the country has emerged as a dynamic force in global entertainment.

A New Era for the Recording Academy

The decision to hold the announcement in Giza aligns with the Recording Academy’s broader strategy to internationalize its brand and deepen its engagement with music communities worldwide. The Academy has recently expanded its presence across Africa, the Middle East, and Latin America, aiming to elevate diverse voices that have long shaped global soundscapes.

As North African and Arab artists continue to gain recognition across streaming platforms, international charts, and major collaborations, the announcement in Egypt signals a broader recalibration of the global music narrative — one that no longer centers solely on Western capitals.

“The Grammy brand is evolving,” said Mason. “What hasn’t changed is our mission: to champion creative excellence. That now means reaching further, listening deeper, and celebrating louder — everywhere music lives.”
