Laila Sedky

CMO and Founder of NOLA Cupcakes

Siblings Adel and Laila Sedky discovered a penetrable gap in the Egyptian dessert market and introduced the first local cupcake store, NOLA. Despite growing up in the same family, the siblings could not be more different. Adel skillfully manages operations and logistics. Laila, on the other hand, drives brand and product development. Interested in business, both Adel and Laila attended the John Molson School of Business at Concordia University, receiving degrees in Marketing and Finance respectively.
The pair opened NOLA Cupcakes after graduation in 2010. NOLA offers customers trendy affordable luxuries through its variety of freshly-baked delicious desserts.
Unlike other bakeries and consumer brands in Egypt, NOLA focuses on the customer experience, providing a sophisticated yet cheerful setting with top customer service.
Through its first mover advantage and quality brand image, NOLA established itself as the go-to cupcake brand in Egypt. Within the market, NOLA stands for affordable luxury and new trends, while to the consumer, NOLA evokes happiness and celebration. In order to ensure quality products, NOLA sources its ingredients from top suppliers, who offer discounted prices and reliable delivery. The company’s centralized production and transportation guarantees product consistency, while NOLA ensures quality customer experience through its exciting window displays and patient, cheerful staff.
Community give-back and outreach is a key ingredient in the company’s brand, and has enabled the candidates to blend food and their community. In addition to NOLA’s charity cupcakes, the company runs an internship program to teach Egypt’s youth responsibility through empowerment.
