Worked as expert and consultant for several international (UNDP USA and ILO Geneva) and regional organizations (Arab Labor Organizations, ESCWA, and Arab council for women).
Laila receieved Bachelor of Economics, Faculty of Economics and Political Science, Cairo University in June 1974 with Highest Honors. She also holds PhD in Economics, Paris II University, June 1984, Highest Honors as well as DEA (MSc) in Advanced Macro-economics, Paris I University, France in 1978.
In 2001, she has been appointed as an independent Senator of Shura Council till January 2011. Then she became the Head of Economic Department, Faculty of Economics and Political Science, Cairo University till she retired in 2012.
