About Me

Long-term banker and private equity executive with stints at Goldman Sachs, HSBC, and Citibank, Minoush Abdel Meguid has worked on several high-profile transactions. Abdel Meguid is the Managing Director and Co-founder of Union Capital Partners, the first private equity firm in Egypt to be uniquely focused on the SMEs investment space. Prior to this, Abdel Meguid took part in the reform of the Egyptian Capital Market Authority (CMA) while serving as the Assistant to the Chairman and Head Corporate Finance Division between December 2005 and December 2007. In her capacity, she led major restructuring efforts including the introduction of the region’s first takeover code. Abdel Meguid has more than 20 years of experience in the field of investment banking and investment management. Prior to joining the CMA, she was Senior Transactor – Resident Vice President and Corporate Finance and Investment Banking North Africa Division at Citigroup in Egypt in April 2004. Furthermore, Abdel Meguid also served as a Manager in the Investment Banking Division of HSBC Investment Bank Egypt from November 1999 to April 2004. Before that, she was a Financial Analyst at the Investment Banking Division of Goldman Sachs International, London, UK, as part of the European Mergers & Acquisitions team covering M&A, Debt, and Equity Capital Market transactions. Abdel Meguid was also the Founding President of NGO Egyptian Young Bankers Association, an Egyptian non-governmental organisation, helping young bankers network and improve their skill set between 2003 and 2008. She served as Chairperson of the Board and Editor-in-Chief of the Egyptian Banker publication until 2008. Since 2011, Abdel Meguid has dedicated more time promoting and supporting entrepreneurship especially in less privileged Egyptian cities outside Cairo and with female entrepreneurs by mentoring and participating in business plan competitions and lecturing on various related topics. She was among six women taking part in the Australian Arab Women dialogue in Australia in 2013. She was also the sole Egyptian participant at the US State Department’s International Visitors’ Leadership Program in 2005 with a focus on “Women in Economic Development”. Moreover, Abdel Meguid has been on the Forbes list of the Most Powerful Women in Africa in 2011, citing her strong commitment to bring about change in the field of investment and entrepreneurship in Egypt as reasons for her selection. She is a Young Global Leader of the World Economic Forum and serves as an active member among the WEF and the YGL global communities. She has been selected by the Paris-based French Institut Choiseul among the 100 future leaders of the African continent since 2014. She was also selected Young Achiever of the Year by the Global Leadership Congress in 2015 and received a special award in that regard. In 2016, the Africa Youth Awards named her among the Inaugural 100 Most Influential Young Africans. She was also ranked by Arabian Business magazine as no. 41 on the list of 100 most influential young Arabs under 40. Abdel Meguid was Valedictorian at her graduation commencement at the American University in Cairo (AUC) and received the Distinguished Alumni Award from AUC in 2016 from which she holds a B.A in Economics and International Relations, magna cum laude.
