About Me

The late Mervat Soltan was appointed as the Chairperson of Export Development Bank (EBE) in November 2016 to lead the necessary change required to help in boosting Egyptian Exports in line with the country strategy to double its exports by 2020. Furthermore, she was appointed as the Chairperson of Export Credit Guarantee Company of Egypt (ECGE) in October 2018, which is a subsidiary of EBE Bank. She was a collaborative and goal-driven international banker offering 35 years of experience in Senior Regional roles within Global, Regional and Local Banks requiring global responsibility with an extensive and diverse background. Proven success in leading a bank to establish and grow the business while managing all types of inherent risks. Proficient in setting the strategy and business plan to achieve set targets. Leading and driving all high level initiatives that positively impact the bank’s profitability, market position and market share. Demonstrated success in driving change; quickly earn the trust, confidence, and respect of peers, direct reports, industry professionals, and key decision-makers. A decisive and energetic strategic thinker focused on quality standards and service to role-model the satisfaction of clients. Mervat has started her banking career in 1983 where she worked at the Egyptian Gulf Bank then the United Bank in 1993. She joined Deutsche Bank in and progressed to reach Regional Head for Financial Institutions in North Africa & Levant in 2002. She moved to work at Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank in 2009 later in the same year, she joined HSBC Dubai as Regional Head for North Africa & Levant Financial Institutions until 2014. Mervat then joined Ahli United Bank (Egypt) until she was appointed as Chairperson of Egyptian Export Development Bank. Mervat earned both her B.A. in Business Administration and M.B.A. from the American University in Cairo in 1983 and 1989 respectively. In acknowledgment of her achievements, she has been selected and awarded by Top 50 Association as one of the Most Influential Women in 2017 and by Forbes ME Magazine as one of the Top 100 Most Influential Women 2018. Moreover, she has been nominated & awarded by Central Bank of Egypt in collaboration with Egyptian Banking Institution as One of the Top 50 Women Performing in Egypt and One of the Best Mentors in the Women Mentor-ship Program 2019. Mervat was a board member in Export Development Authority. Moreover, she has been a long-standing member of the following associations: – Amcham – American Chamber of Commerce – Cancham – Canadian Chamber of Commerce – BEBA – British Egyptian Businessmen Association – EBA – Egyptian Businessmen association – ECRA – Egyptian Credit & Risk association – FEB – Federation of Egyptian Banks – UAB – Union of Arab Banks
