Sub-Governor for Banking Supervision – Central Bank of Egypt
May Abulnaga is Sub-Governor for the Technical Prudential Regulation Office and Banking Supervision at the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) since July 2017.
She joined the CBE in 2005, responsible for the Regulations Department and Banking Supervision. She has a diverse banking experience of up to 25 years.
Under her capacity, Abulnaga supervised a program related to the restructuring and development of public sector banks till 2007.
Afterwards, she established the Banking Supervision Regulations Division under the Banking Supervision Department, which prepares and issues all the banking regulations since 2007.
Abulnaga also participated in setting all the regulations related to the implementation of Basel II framework, global risks, acquisitions, and banking financing for real estate developers. She contributed to the launch of several banking initiatives aimed to support the tourism, MSMEs, and industrial sectors.
She holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the American University in Cairo. In 2014, Abulnaga received a fellowship in Financial Inclusion from the Fletcher School at Tufts University in USA.
