About Me

Halla Sakr has a proven track record that spans over 31 years in the banking industry across Egypt and the Middle East. Sakr, former non-executive chairperson Attijariwafa Bank, was the first women to serve as the Managing Director of Barclays Bank Egypt in January 2016 until the bank was later acquired by Attijariwafa Bank in May 2017. Prior to this, Sakr spent over 22 years in HSBC Egypt, where she had held a variety of leadership positions. In 2013, she was appointed the Deputy Chairperson and Chief Executive Officer before leaving the bank. As of 2011, she held the position as Deputy CEO and Head of Commercial Banking upon her return from assuming her role as Regional Head of Retail Banking and Wealth Management in HSBC UAE. In addition, she had also held the role of Managing Director for Retail Banking and Wealth Management as well as Head of Credit Risk Management. Halla’s vast experience is spread across the banking industry from Personal Financial Services and Branches to Credit Risk Management, Corporate Banking, Strategy, Marketing, and Communications. She holds a bachelor degree in Business Administration from the American University in Cairo (High Honors).
