About Me

Naglaa El Ahwany was former Minister of International Cooperation, Executive Director and Chief Economist at the Egyptian Center for Economic Studies. She was also Director of the Center for European Studies in the Faculty of Economics and Political Science at Cairo University. She also worked as an Economic Advisor to the American Chamber of Commerce, the International Labour Organization’s (ILO) Cairo Office, and the ESCWA. In May 2011, she was appointed as Advisor to the Egyptian Prime Minister for Economic Affairs. Moreover, El Ahwany served as an Economist Researcher in the Arab Institute for Planning in Kuwait and the Arab Studies Institute of the Arab League. El Ahwany also held different roles between 2004 and 2015, including a Board Member of the Social Fund for Development (currently Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprise Development Agency), the Arab Society for Economic Research. She was also a Member of the Board of Trustees of the Anti-Money Laundering Unit at the Central Bank of Egypt, a Boad Member of the General Union of NGOs, and a Member of the National Council of Women. She is currently a Member of the General Assembly of the Holding Company for Tourism and Hotels and a Member of the Board of Trustees of the Ahl Al-Misr Foundation. El Ahwany has published several studies on informal labour and rural development, issues    that are particularly relevant to Egypt’s economic agenda.
