About Me

Dr. Hend Hanafy was appointed as President of Alexandria University in 2009, becoming the first women ever in Egypt to hold such position. During her time in office, Alexandria University entered for the first time the British International Classification of Universities in 2010. It ranked 147 on the list of the best 200 universities in the world. It was the only university in Egypt and the Arab world and the second in Africa. Prior to this, Hanafi was the Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research, a job she held since 2006. Before that, she was Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Medicine for Graduate Studies and Research in 2004. She established the Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Unit at the University Children Hospital in Shatby, Alexandria in 1992. Hanafi fulfilled the duties of her job as President of Alexandria University until October 2011, for which she was honored in 2015 by the University Council. In 2016, she was selected to join the National Council for Women. Today she still serves as the Supervisor of the NCW office in Alexandria. Hanafi graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at Alexandria University. She obtained her Master’s and PhD in Pediatrics from the same university.
