About Me

The late Anissa Hassouna was the CEO of ElNas Hospital, Member of the Egyptian parliament, and Former Executive Director of Magdi Yacoub Heart Foundation. Earlier, she was a Political Advisor to the Chairman of the Information and Decision Support Centre of  the Egyptian Cabinet.
Hassouna was also the Director General of Egypt’s International Economic Forum and Assistant General Manager at Misr Iran Development Bank. Moreover, she is the Founder and Chairperson of Enlightened Egypt Foundation, which promotes the values of citizenship and gender equal rights.
She is also a Founding  Member of Think Tank for Arab Women, the Forum for Arab Citizenship in Transition Democracies, the Front  for Protecting the Freedom of Creativity & Expression, and the Arab International Women’s Forum in London.
She is also a Member of both the American Chamber of Commerce in Egypt and the British Egyptian Business Association (BEBA) in Cairo.
Hassouna, who writes regularly on public affairs, is the first woman to be elected on the Board of the Egyptian Council for Foreign Affairs, where she held the position of Treasurer, Secretary-General. She is currently the Vice-Chair of the Council. In addition, she is a Member of the Executive Council of the Pugwash Conferences on Science and World Affairs that won the Nobel Prize in 1995. She is Member of Global Women, USA, 1000 Women for Peace, Switzerland, the Consultative Board of the Arab Thought Foundation in Beirut, Lebanon.
In 2014, Hassouna was named on the annual list of the renowned Arabian Business & CEO Middle East magazine as one of the World’s 100 Most Powerful Arab Women.
Hassouna holds a bachelor’s degree in Economics and Political Science. She started her career as a Diplomat with the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs followed by the League of Arab States. She lectured at both the Diplomatic Institute, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Banking Institute of the Central Bank of Egypt.
