Amal Mowafy was the Chief Technical Advisor at the International Labour Organization (ILO), managing the ILO/Canada flagship project on Decent Jobs for Egypt’s Young People (DJEP). She works with the Egyptian Government and the people to deliver results at national, governorate, community policy, and administration levels through interventions that tackle the supply, intermediation, and demand aspects of the labour market to achieve Decent Work (Sustainable Development Goal 8) for all. Mowafy joined the ILO as Senior Programme Officer in September 2008. Prior to that, she was a Project Management Specialist at USAID’s Policy and Private Sector Office, where she worked on the broad areas of public finance, competiveness, business and economic higher education as well as consumer protection from August 2005 till July 2008. She started her career with the Ministry of International Cooperation in February 1998 until she became the Desk Officer for Cooperation with the USA in the Cabinet of the then Minister of International Cooperation Fayza Abou El Naga in July 2004. Mowafy is an Egyptian development professional with more than 20 years of experience. She has completed course work for a PhD in Public Administration at Cairo University in the Faculty of Economics and Political Science. She holds two degrees with highest honours from the American University in Cairo: an MPA with a specialization in International Organizations (on a merit scholarship) and B.A. in Economics.
